Letters to the editor - Journal Gazette- Fort Wayne, Indiana 13 Steps Toward Independence
With a $17+ trillion debt constantly growing, why do the “leaders” of this country only discuss reducing the current rate of borrowing done by the federal government? What future statesmen and patriots should discuss are the following 13 suggestions to save the U.S.A.:
1. Reduce the size of the federal government by two thirds.
When the federal government gets involved in our lives, we can be sure that things will get complicated and much money will be wasted. We cannot get rid of the red tape and the boondoggle of federal intervention overnight, but we have to start somewhere.
Why not begin with a hiring freeze in all federal departments? As federal employees retire, move to the private sector, or are dismissed, if they are replaced, they should be replaced from other federal positions that are eliminated.
Over the next twenty years we could eliminate several federal bureaucracies while strengthening the vital ones that survive. And by 2033 we could have a new generation of young people ready to begin employment in a lean, mean federal machine.
